The effects of childcare experienced by children is a matter that is greatly concerning.
This is because along with positive effects on some areas of development there can also be negative consequences. It is important to be aware of, and understand, likely risks. Not every child benefits from attending ECE. And, not all ECE is the same. The quality of ECE services is variable. What benefits one child might not benefit another because much depends on who the child is and their background, along with the quality of service.
Participation in ECE can have a life-long lasting impact. This is when services provide a high-quality intervention programme. It’s also true when services target children from disadvantaged backgrounds and involve their parents.
