Small group size and ratios – not too many children per adult – are key elements in encouraging great caregiving and supporting positive relationships.
Internationally, NZ is behind in not having group size and the number of adults per group regulated.
Did you know that under Alert Level 3 for Covid-19 in NZ, bubble sizes of no more than 20 children were achieved? It led to real benefits for children – for both their health and learning. It also meant that teachers were not spread out across a large number of children and were therefore able to spend more time on teaching instead of just supervision.
