Death and injury prevention is a serious matter in early childhood care and education. Every parent has a right to expect their child will come home alive and not suffer preventable injuries.
The Ministry of Education holds responsibility for making sure services do not operate in ways that result in harm to a child. But the ministry operates a high trust model. This means that it’s often not until a child dies or is hurt that problems come to light.
At the OECE, we work to raise public awareness about death and injury prevention. We will continue to talk about and investigate safety issues.
