About Working in Early Childhood Education

Mandatory vaccination of the early childhood education workforce, along with the school and health and disability workforces, was announced on 11 October 2021. Minister Chris Hipkins said:

“A high rate of vaccinations will help to protect staff from getting sick and passing COVID-19 onto loved ones. It will also reassure those who are anxious about their children attending school and early learning services.”

Government has already highlighted that there are groups in NZ society where extra special effort is needed to attain vaccination targets. Is the ECE workforce one of them?

A survey by the Office of Early Childhood Education of 2,100 people in early childhood education found the following…

Online Hui For service providers, managers, committee chairperson’s or representatives

Thursday 21st October 2021, 2pm.

Dr Sarah Alexander will talk through the key factors you need to consider:

  • what are your obligations?
  • establishing and maintaining an immunisation register
  • the timeline and meeting deadlines
  • talking with staff and parents
  • employment law and staffing
  • what else is coming?

There will be time for discussion and questions.

No charge for service provider members.
$150 per non-member (or, you may choose to quickly take out a service provider membership before you register for the Hui)

Registrations close at 10pm Tuesday 19th October, unless all places are taken earlier. 

Second Online Hui – For educators, teachers, other ECE staff, and volunteers

There is no charge to participate but registration is essential
